The mission of the Murphysboro Youth & Recreation Center (MYRC) is to provide a safe environment for youth and their families by building strong, healthy relationships that encourage and promote positive citizenship for our community. The center offers a wide variety of activities and new programs are continually added to reach out to other audiences. MYRC is also used by a number of community and school groups including: - Key Club

- Girl Scouts b
- Weight Watchers
- Builder's Club
- Immanuel Luthern School
- Pate Chapel Church
Free Bread Days Pick up some extra bread for your family courtesy of the Church of Christ, Panera Bread's "Day-End Dough-Nation" Program, Jackson County 4-H Program, Com-Pac International, Jackson County U of I Extension, City of Murphysboro and the MYRC! The Youth & Recreation Center is under the direction of a board of directors and the organization is recognized as a 501(c)3 charitable organization. The organization also sponsors a youth board. MYRC's primary source of revenue is grants, gifts, and building rental. Recent grants include a $2,000 gift from the St. Louis Cardinals and a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart. - To provide positive interpersonal relationships
- To achieve a self-sufficient facility through grant opportunities, facility rental, fundraising events, and community donations
Your Old Soda Bottles Can Support Youth Activities MYRC also supports its efforts by selling recycled aluminum cans and 20-ounce soda bottles. Plastic soda bottles must be 20 ounce bottles cannot be smashed or dented. Terracycle, Inc. pays MYRC 5 cents for each bottle (6 cents if you remove the label!). Plastic bottles are cleaned and reused to for re-packaging TerraCycle Plant Food, an organic plant food made from recycled premium organic waste processed by millions of worms. If you would like to drop off bottles or cans, please call 618.684.8243 to ensure someone will be there to meet you. Or if you are willing to offer a location for bottle and can collection, please let us know! Facility Rental MYRC is available for rental for private and group events, such as baby showers, family reunions, meetings, wedding receptions, and more. (No alcohol allowed) Currently MYRC is also available for rent for birthday parties for ages 12 and under. All income from rentals go to support youth programs and resources needed for further growth of MYRC programs.
