The Gallery is a project of the Montgomery County Council for the Arts and features a new exhibit every month. Opening Receptions are free and lively events held on the first Friday of each month from 430-730pm, and are open to anyone interested in the arts. Regular hours are Tuesday-Saturday 1130-430pm.
Gallery for the Arts is a not for profit gallery managed by the Montgomery County Council for the Arts. Within this gallery one will find works by local and regional artists as well as an
 
 
exhibit of works by a featured artist. The featured artist exhibit changes monthly and is presented on the first Friday of every month with an Opening Reception that is free and open to everyone.
Projects and Programs Presented by the Montgomery County Council for the Arts
 
Gallery for the Arts
The Gallery for the Arts is the current home of the Montgomery County Council for the Arts. This gallery was established in 1997 in collaboration with the revitalization of downtown through the Main Cross Apartment Project.
The store front had to be totally renovated from floors to ceilings and was done so through funds raised by the community. Since 1997 the Gallery for the Arts has presented 300 exhibits with an Opening Reception the first Friday of every month. Artists from Kentucky, national and international artists have exhibited their work in this space.
 
The Art Shop
The Art Shop is located in part of the Gallery for the Arts and features local and regional artists.
 
The Regional Student Art Show
This event brings in student artists from the Gateway Region to compete for ribbons and prizes. Demonstrations and educational opportunities are presented in conjunction with this project.
 
Music Projects and Programs:
Gateway Community Youth Chorus - This chorus is designed for youth in grades 4th-8th. Under the direction of Ashley Tyree 25-35 youth learn a variety of music teaching them the different elements of music and the correct methods of performing. This chorus meets September-December and presents 2 concerts.
 Sterling Singers Community Chorus - This chorus consist of adults from the region. Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings, beginning in March and finishing in July with the Annual Ice Cream Concert as the finale. Over 30 participate in this chorus.
Advent Musicale - Under the direction of John Stegner, this chorus begins rehearsals in October for a final performance called the Advent Musicale the first Sunday in December. Dr. George Zack of the Lexington Philharmonic conducts the performance utilizing musicians from the Lexington Philharmonic along with the vocalists. Classical music as well as music from other countries is performed around such themes as “World Peace”.
 Summer Choral Camp for Youth under the direction of Debbie Stegner of Lexington (voted Kentucky Music Educator of the Year 2004) This chorus is for youth finishing grades 3rd-8th. Ms. Stegner conducts rehearsals and lessons for one week culminating with a performance at noon on Friday. Youth learn about all aspects of singing as well as some instruments for accompaniment.
Salons - Four Salons are presented each year. These performances are held in local homes where artists perform for approximately 50 individuals. Each Salon presents a different music form such as: Opera, Flute and Piano, Broadway, Jazz, Harp, brass instruments, strings, etc.
 
Theatre:
Summer Playhouse and Summer Stock Theatre Camps for Youth - for ages 7-12. Under the direction of Jansje Huyck for 12 years. Youth spend a week learning about all aspects of theatre - from acting to backdrops and costumes. On Saturday they perform 2 plays and individual presentations of monologues and poems.
Missoula Children’s Theatre - A team of actors from Missoula, Montana, do a week long residency in the Fall rehearsing with elementary students to perform a musical. 50-75 children are involved in this program.
