The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art is a nonprofit, independent organization that exists to exhibit, collect, preserve, and interpret modern and contemporary art. It serves the art life of the community by creating opportunities for direct experience with works of art, by providing a forum for the exchange of ideas about art, and by offering programs to enhance the appreciation and understanding of art. The Madison and Dane County Parks have beautiful venues for your special event, and many offer shelters. For an intimate gathering, the historic Gates of Heaven synagogue, located in James Madison Park, can be rented. A larger party can be accommodated at the Lussier Family Heritage Center, featuring modern amenities in a beautiful prairie setting. Another lovely setting is Allen Centennial Gardens on the UW–Madison campus. Replete with spectacular landscape designs and a pond, this is a perfect place for a wedding with a small, intimate feel. The exquisitely groomed grounds of the Wisconsin State Capitol bloom with seasonal flowers throughout the spring, summer and fall. During the holidays, a giant Christmas tree fills the Rotunda. When it’s cold out, you enjoy the tropical setting of the Bolz Conservatory or the natural beauty of the tree-lined, glass atrium. Ideal for UW alumni, the Memorial Union provides catering and no room charge to Union members. With gracefully arched ceilings, marble steps and picture windows overlooking the charming Terrace, a reception in Great Hall is sure to be memorable. Tour information : MMoCA's tour program has a reputation for providing high-quality, lively, question-driven experiences for groups of students and adults that focus on critical and creative thinking through observation, analysis, and interpretation of original works of art. Teaching kits are available and contain biographical information, analysis of artworks, pre- and post-visit discussion topics, interdisciplinary lesson ideas, and illustrations of a representative selection of the art on view in the museum.
