Founded in 1850, Illinois Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts university with an enrollment of 2,100. Wesleyan has long been known for its outstanding faculty, distinctive liberal arts curriculum, the personal attention it gives students, and its beautiful and welcoming campus. The University is located in Bloomington, Ill., a city of 65,000 that is located just two hours south of Chicago and north of St. Louis. Illinois Wesleyan's distinctive curriculum combines the liberal arts with professional programs the fine arts and nursing. The University offers 47 major areas of study, plus eight pre-professional programs in medicine, law, dentistry, engineering, veterinary science, forestry and environmental management, physical and occupational therapies. Each IWU school or college looks for somewhat different strengths and abilities in reviewing applicants' credentials. However, applicants are recommended to have:
Fifteen (15) academic units within the areas of English, foreign language, mathematics, laboratory science, and social science. A cumulative grade-point average of B or higher. Well-written personal essays. Student activities in school and community. Results of the SAT-I or American College Test (ACT) showing comparable aptitude to grade-point average, class rank, and preparation. Scores from these tests will be accepted from high school transcripts. The ACT writing component is not required, but it will be accepted as supplemental information to an application.
