rockfoldEstablished in 1887 by university graduates who wanted a special place where they could enjoy intellectual pursuits, the University Club of Chicago was founded for the purpose of fostering an appreciation of literature and the arts. College or university graduation remains the basic requirement for membership, and within the membership nearly every business and profession is represented

Club Dress Code
The Club Dress Code is applicable at all times for members and guests.
Monday through Friday, informal business attire is required as a minimum.
Informal business attire is defined as:
Men and boys over the age of twelve:
slacks and a collared shirt
Ladies: slacks or skirt and shirt

Formal attire is always acceptable in the clubhouse. Jeans, denim apparel, t-shirts, v-neck sweaters with t-shirts visible and athletic attire are prohibited except in the athletic areas. Overalls, spandex leggings, tank tops and halter-tops, however, are never appropriate in the clubhouse.

Exceptions to the Club Dress Code on weekdays are as follows:

1) Athletic Facilities - Members and guests in athletic attire may enter and depart through the service entrance and utilize the back service elevator or back stairs solely for the purpose of utilizing the athletic facilities, provided that they register as required by the security guard.

2) Club Events. Certain Club events (for example, the New Year's Day Open House, certain Club Society and other Club special events) have a dress code. Publication of the applicable dress code in the 76 newsletter shall be deemed sufficient notice to all persons.
